Come to Your Senses is for you if you:

  • are a writer in any genre who is ready to generate new material

  • would love some fun experiences to re-fresh your writing practice

  • want to be in a (lovely, plant-filled) room with other writers again!

  • are New York-based and have been eyeing all of the out-of-city writing retreats, but taking several days away from home just doesn’t fit your schedule or budget

Our generative sessions will include both writing and crafting.

Together we will visit a local art exhibition and draw inspiration for our writing.

What’s included:

  • Two days of sensory experiences and inspired writing exercises at the Resort in Long Island City, Queens, NYC

  • snacks on Saturday and catered lunch on Sunday, all prepared by chef Michelle Warner (culinary director for Trisha Yearwood)

  • group writing sessions and discussions of readings

  • customized group acupuncture session to improve your flow, with Kenna Bouvet (licensed acupuncturist and co-owner of Earth & Sky Healing Arts)

  • group visit to local art museum to generate ideas

  • facilitated crafting to inform your writing practice (go home with an object to remember your retreat!)

  • cold beverages and tea throughout the weekend, plus handcrafted cocktails by your host, Catherine LaSota, to conclude our time together (non-alcoholic options available)

    (Note: This retreat is designed for writers who are based in NYC or will be local to NYC on the weekend of November 18-19, 2023. Come to Your Senses does not include overnight accommodations.)

Michelle Warner

COME TO YOUR SENSES
with:

Chef Michelle Warner offers cooking classes and culinary events with By-Hand Culinary, and she serves as the Culinary Director for Trisha Yearwood. Michelle has also worked in the Food Network kitchens to prepare and style food, and as Education Director at The Brooklyn Kitchen. She received her chef training and culinary arts education at Kendall College.

Facilitator Catherine LaSota is a writer and creativity coach. She is the founder of the Resort writing community and host of the Cabana Chats podcast on writing and community. Her background includes Association for Coaching accredited training, MFAs in sculpture and in creative nonfiction, and certification as an advanced SCUBA diver.

Licensed Acupuncturist Kenna Bouvet is co-owner of Earth & Sky Healing Arts in Long Island City, NYC, where she specializes in women’s health, perinatal care, pediatrics, and digestive health. Her extensive training includes certifications in maternal acupuncture and facial acupuncture, and she enjoys facilitating her clients’ learning and understanding of their bodies.
